Another titanium divers watch, it's the cheapest model that uses Seiko's famed spring drive. But it's still expensive.
Whoa- The heck is this? It's huge! It's heavy!
That's because it's packed full of gears on the inside.
Pretty much all mechanical types are big and heavy.
And managing to squeeze in not just a bunch of gears, but quartz parts as well... The spring drive is sure amazing!
A typical quartz watch A battery powers the crystal and turns the motor. In a solar watch the battery is rechargable, but it's pretty much the same.
Mechanical watch The power released from the mainspring is timed by the balance wheel mechanism, which moves the hands. A hunk of gears.
Spring drive As well as moving the hands, the power released from the mainspring generates electricity that powers the crystal oscillator, and its circuit is used to alter the movement of the hands. There's no battery or anything.
Heh, that's pretty elaborate. But it sounds really expensive...
Is it more accurate than that radio watch from before?
No way.
Expensive watches have no need to be accurate!
Wha-?
