This happened a few years ago on a bullet train heading to Tokyo.
Being in the Green Class, there was only one other passenger besides me: a white-haired man in his sixties with glasses, sitting to my left and behind me.After sitting down for a while, I suddenly felt thirsty.
I desperately wanted coffee.I was wondering if there was a vending machine when I heard the voice of a train attendant from behind me.
Perfect timing. As I waited, the old man behind me called out to the attendant,
"Could I have a coffee?"
The attendant simply replied, "We're out of stock." The old man sighed, "Isn't that always the case?"The attendant then came over to me.
Since I really wanted coffee, I asked, "Is there anything similar to coffee?"
The attendant whispered, "...Actually, we do have coffee."
Hearing this, I involuntarily glanced towards the old man behind me.
He was gone.
