A thin disc of metal featuring an inscription or design on its face. They are typically made to commemorate events or awarded for some distinction, such as athletic prowess, military valor, or other extraordinary feats. When worn, they are most often worn around the neck.
In sporting events, a gold medal is awarded for first place, silver for second place, and bronze for third.
