The wind blows through.
The cold, dry air seeps through the gaps in my gear, chilling my heated skin.
With every breath, a faint mist of white forms.
I simply slip my hand into the gap in my plate carrier.
I let my gaze drift downward, not focusing on the scenery in front of me.
No matter where I am or what Iโm doing, this remains a battlefield for me.
The back entrance of the museum.
A "Closed for Construction" sign hangs, and the place has been sealed off for years.
Inside, everything is being dismantled, erased.
The value of what was kept there, its meaning, is all gone without a trace.
No one knows.
Thereโs never been an opportunity to know.
In the distance, footsteps echo.
The dry sound of footsteps crunching on frost-covered ground.
The rhythmic patrols reverberate through the still air, fading away.
I exhale softly, leaning against the wall, listening to the sound.
Thereโs nothing out of the ordinary.
There has never been anything out of the ordinary.
If there is something to be truly protected here, it is the silence itself.
I close my eyes.
For a moment, fragments of memories flash through my mind.
There was no hesitation back then.
What we believed in, each of us had to hold onto it.
Before I came here, that was enough.
Nowโฆ
I take a breath and slowly rise.
Stepping out of the shadow and into the cold light.
I feel something shift inside me.
I donโt know what it is yet.
But still, I move forward.
Just as I always have.
