.... A Lie-in-Wait Scarer? Had to fudge for the pun. The Japanese term is shishi-odoshi, which sounds like "lion-threatener", but actually means "deer-threatener". The clack of the bamboo as it fills with water and drops on the stone is meant to scare off deer and birds.
