Even after receiving warning that the German invasion is imminent, Stalin stubbornly ignored it and this resulted in big losses on the Soviet side during the Nazi-Soviet war. After that, Stalin locked himself in his villa for a week, probably from the shock of being betrayed by Hitler.

During the second world war, Prime Minister Churchill said that he’d even take the devil’s hand to win against the Germans. The devil he meant in those words was of course the Soviet Union’s Stalin, but when they met, Stalin joked that the Devil was on his side. The Secretary General sure had a sense of humor.

During World War 2, Stalin's love for the American strategic bomber B-29 Superfortress led to him ordering the Soviet Union's complete replication of the aircraft. As a result, urban legend has it that the Tupolev Tu-4 had the hit marks of the prototype B-29 because Stalin ordered that "the B-29 is to be faithfully copied".

It is said that Stalin had several body doubles. The large and imposing image of Stalin as seen on propaganda photographs and images was actually his body doubles. The real Stalin was short and had a face riddled with pockmarks. His left arm was also rendered paralyzed by a childhood injury.
