Among the ammunitions used for RPG-7, the most popular one is the PG-7 (all-purpose explosive charge). This model is detonated by piezoelectric fuse. Upon impact with target, the triggering device at the front end activates and sends an electric signal to ignite the triggering explosive located in the rear part and detonate the explosive. But when caught in a wire net, this signal could get grounded and unable to reach the explosive, and thus it wouldn't explode.
About the Wire Net that saved Kanako
There is a famous story that during the Vietnam war, American troops protected themselves against RPGs by installing wire nets in front of their bunkers. Of all the RPGs fired at them, 50% didn't explode. Even for those did explode, the damage was minimal compared to direct impact. More than anything, this was a low-cost solution, so even now it's still used. The cause of Marisa's defeat is because she didn't use the OG-7 anti-personnel warhead, which uses the same triggering mechanism as a mortar charge.
Digressing a bit, "RPG-7" is an acronym for Ruchnoy Protivotankovyy Granatomyot Sem, which means "Hand-held Anti-tank Grenade Launcher". In short, it is not a "rocket launcher", as represented by the bazooka, but an "anti-tank grenade launcher", a weapon in a completely different category. In the first place, strictly speaking, "bazooka" is a pet name designating the American Army's "M1 2.36-inch rocket launcher" and its series (the M9 and M20). Calling an RPG a bazooka, when it's even categorically a different object, is about as wrong as calling a PS3 an NES, so you must be careful. Still, unlike the "Panzerfaust" on which it was modeled, the RPG-7 also has a rocket launcher's feature of "accelerating by rocket motor", so it can indeed be misleading.I realize the "sem" part of the Russian name given here means "seven", but the Japanese text explains it a little incorrectly.
