    twitter/Leon84518614

Sunday Silence SPECULAH - Part 3

    〇 Halo
    Height: 169 cm / B80・W56・H82
    Regarding design
I put quite a bit of serious thought into this. Actually, this outfit was originally something I wanted to put on Sunday Silence herself, but I scrapped it because an amateur couldn't possibly make it by hand, and it would expose all her full-body scars. So this is an arranged version of that rejected design.
Halo's name comes from the Spanish word "halo" (meaning a ring of light or aureola), so I first thought about how to incorporate an angel's halo into the clothing.
Angel halo → crown → Christ's crown of thorns.
The crown of thorns symbolizes suffering and trials, which felt perfectly fitting, so I went with it. But a direct crown of thorns would look tacky, so I turned it into a barbed-wire tiara motif.
The inverted cross on her chest was added to pair with Wishing Well.
An inverted cross is also famously a symbol of devil worship, which somehow felt appropriate too.
The overall outfit is based on restraints and belts. The braided pattern on the sides of her chest is inspired by her biting habit and American nose art (paintings on the front of fighter planes)—specifically shark teeth. I designed the white clasps on her stomach in clusters so they’d evoke fangs. Also, since she wasn’t an exact lookalike to Sunday and Café, I made her appearance slightly different.
    Regarding setting
I really wanted to include Halo’s attempted murder episode somewhere. Also, there were just too many strong foals… so I casually resolved it by having her give all children except Sunday to the father’s side.
She has hallucinations and seizures as symptoms from abuse trauma, and the incident she caused was due to this.
More than a place to belong, Halo craved someone’s love. When she saw Sunday—who resembled her younger self from the facility—she felt curiosity mixed with a little guilt and tried to become her mother. But Halo, who had never known love, realized she couldn’t be a proper mother. She thought that Wishing Well, the only person who had ever shown her genuine affection, might be able to do it…
She desperately didn’t want Sunday to end up like her, so before turning herself in to the police, she entrusted Sunday to him. That’s the setting.
Her respiratory illness is based on the real Halo’s cribbing habit.
Trevi comes from the idea that Wishing Well’s name derives from a wish-granting lake, and the famous real-world example is Rome’s Trevi Fountain.
〇 The following Rough Gemstones members have no real-life horse counterparts; they’re all purely my imagined characters.
I thought that even the foals who died in accidents would have had their own episodes and personalities in the Uma Musume world, so I created these girls. Since using real motifs or images would be disrespectful and upsetting to people (given that they die), I made them completely original.
Their names are also deliberately mixed from French, Greek, Latin, and English to avoid any that appear in actual racing history.
Even if a horse didn’t achieve much, I don’t want to create disposable characters, so my goal was to make girls that make you think, “She didn’t deserve to die in a place like this.”
If you have better name ideas, traits, or character suggestions, please let me know…
    〇 Hedera Aster
    Nickname: Hester-chan
“Hedera” is another name for ivy; its flower meaning is friendship, immortality, and eternal love.
“Aster” means “star” in Greek, and the flower of the same name (Michaelmas daisy) has meanings of remembrance and recollection. I remembered my grandpa saying that people named after flowers tend to have short lives, so I chose it for that fragile, fleeting image.
She’s usually gentle and earnest, but sometimes shows a pained, sorrowful expression.
I noticed there aren’t many freckled Uma Musume girls, so…
Sunday fought her entire racing career wearing the outfit Hedera gave her—wrapping the soot-stained, partially burned blue scarf around her arm…
Even when offered fancier, prettier racing silks before or after G1 races, Sunday never changed her outfit. No matter how tattered and dirty it became, she couldn’t forget Hedera’s words or the needle-scarred hands that had clumsily yet desperately tried so hard to make it…
    〇 Beltanotes
    Nickname: Note-chan
“Belta” means “beautiful” or “beautiful woman” in Italian, and it’s also the name of the heroine in the tragic love story “Forget-Me-Not” by German poet Wilhelm Allen.
Long ago, a knight named Rudolf tried to pick the flowers blooming on the banks of the Danube for his lover Berta, but he slipped and was swept away by the current. With his last strength, he threw the flowers to the shore and cried, “Vergiss mein nicht!” (“Don’t forget me!”) before dying. Berta placed the flowers on his grave and named them after his final words.
That’s the episode I drew from. In the story, though, she’s the one left behind…
Half-bangs are easy and fun to draw, right? Sunday never let go of Note’s final letter—its words blurred and fading from tears and blood—and the choker she’d worn around her neck.
    〇 Axel Sheriff
Nickname: Cindy-chan (Ash works too, I think)
    “Axel” (accelerator) + “Sheriff” (lawman/official).
I made her a mechanic’s daughter, and also wanted something that could be shortened to “Ash” (cinder), so it’s a pretty straightforward name.
The plate on her chest has her teammates’ names and the dates they beat certain cars engraved on it.
The goggles she treasured were shattered in the accident and no longer held their original shape.
Sunday continued to cherish the place Axel had given her and the battered plate that had been her good-luck charm.
I have a personal taste for depressing developments, heavy backstories, dark pasts, and adversity…
But I absolutely hate bad endings with no salvation…
That’s why I wanted to believe that the souls of these girls who died are connected to Sunday’s victories, which is how I ended up with these settings.
