Sewing Pin machibari

Origin of the word machibari (sewing pin)... this kind of pin, which lacks a hole, was originally called komachibari after poet Ono no Komachi...

Ono no Komachi was a woman of unmatched beauty, but showed little interest in men, so it was said about her that "that woman doesn't have a hole". Thus, a pin without a hole was called a komachibari, and the ko was lost, leaving the word as machibari.

Wait, if Komachi is based on Ono no Komachi, does that mean she doesn't have a hole either!?

No, no! It's not like that at all!

Look! Both my hole and pole are perfectly fine!

Of course, glad to hear it!
