Professor! You're overloading Red's brain!

Of course, not just anyone can join the Elite Four. In addition to obtaining a high rank within the league you also need to get other qualifications and pass a gruelling trial period. It's the kind of position most trainers can only dream of, but it comes with its fair share of responsibilities as well. You have to help out supervising gyms and testing prospective new gym leaders, for one. And the police may call you in to help with incidents where people are using pokemon to commit crimes - you can face very real danger. Then there's...

Aw, whatever. Basically, they're just really really awesome trainers, right?

*spring*

Pfft. You still don't get it?

They're strong - that's all I need to know!

See?

Hm?

In a sense, you're right.

The preliminary rounds are a battleground, a fierce competition between hundreds of gym leader-class trainers.

But for these four, they're absolutely trivial. They're strong enough that their victory in the prelims would be guaranteed, a foregone conclusion.

They truly are the most elite pokemon trainers the league has to offer.
