A bird...?

Ayup!

When you turn at high speed, the air pressure at the tip of your wing will drop.

That can sometimes create a trail-like cloud.

In other words, it's just a thin stream of water vapor...

But after the sun goes down, the sunlight from behind the horizon is reflected on that cloud.

That's what made it look like a falling star. I did think the trail lingered oddly long, but in any case...

All in all, it wasn't anything that unusual.

Even if you outran it, it wouldn't be a star you caught.
