This is the White Hare of Inaba.

It is a hare found in the Kojiki. There is an episode in which, in order to cross the sea, it challenged the crocodile-sharks to see which of their people were more numerous. It suggested that the crocodile-sharks line up in the sea, and pretended to count the number of crocodile-sharks while moving along their backs towards the shore.

However, it was so happy that it had successfully tricking them that it blurted out that they had been tricked.

Filled with anger over being deceived, the crocodile-sharks immediately caught it.

They tore off all of its skin.
