Media asset #1
My shipname is derived directly from the name of a city. What does "Shiratsuyu" mean, if I may ask?
It refers to the sparkling dew attached to plants. Apparently the word appears quite often in Japanese poetry like tankas and haikus.
Shiratsuyu = lit. "White Dew".
...Oh! Come to think of it...
The kanji for "Dew" is also used to refer to Russia... so my name can mean White Russia too, heh!
Russia is written as 露亜西 in ateji (phonetic kanji), which is often shortened to just 露 in abbreviations and word compounds. Like 米 (lit. "rice") for America.
...By "White Russia"...
I trust you mean Belarus?
"White Russia" is also an old name for parts of modern day Belarus.
Beh... Beh-Laru...?? I don't quite get what you mean, but I think white is perfectly-suited for Russia. (I mean there's lots of snow after all.) A nice match, riiiight? White Russia! Don't you think there's a nice ring to it?
Hello?
Cheka?
The All-Russian Extraordinary Commission, or VChK (Cheka comes by pronouncing the Ch and K), a Lenin-era secret police. Precursor to the GPU and all the other Soviet secret police agencies. The Cheka's main function is to fight 'counterrevolutionary' activities. Like, say, the White Russians and their sympathists.

  • 何気ない一言が・・・

    さては反革命分子だなオメー

    最後のコマは「もしもしベリヤ?」にしようかとも考えたり・・・。

    With one nonchalant line...

    So you're counterrevolutionary scum, eh?

I did think of making the line in the final panel "Hello, Beria?"...
Chief of the NKVD (another secret police agency) during Stalin's time.
