Japari Park, Lucky-san (Gokoku Region)

The red fox is an incredibly adaptable animal, living mostly in grasslands and forests, but also being found in cold regions, desert-like places, and altitudes exceeding 4000 meters. It is believed to be the most widely distributed carnivoran. As such, it has many variants, the Ezo red fox being one among them.

Red foxes are nocturnal, have cat-like vertical slit pupils, can climb trees with catlike agility, lead solitary lives like cats, and possess a catlike capricious temperament, so they are sometimes described as "catlike canines".

The red fox is a very wary, but also intelligent and curious animal. As they appear to deliberately put their prey off guard when hunting, fairy tales and folk legends in both the east and west attribute a sly personality to them.
