USS Constellation (CC-2)

[Cancelled and] scrapped, 1923

Date laid down

Who're you? Since Constellation was scrapped before completion, Saratoga never served with her.

I was first! Call me big sis!

Call me big sis!

Call me big sis! Ah, the question of "who's the lead ship?" Usually, US ships are named after the first ship in hull number sequence, ignoring date of launch, commissioning, or the beginning of work on the ship. Lexington, as CC-1 (before being converted into an aircraft carrier) was therefore the lead ship despite being later in all three aspects.

Laid down 25 September 1920

Laid down 8 January 1921

Launched 7 April 1925

Launched 3 October 1925

Commissioned 16 November 1927

Commissioned 14 December 1927

Call me big sis! Constellation was the first of the Lexington-class battlecruisers to be laid down. When most of the class was cancelled, she was scrapped along with three of her sister ships.

Big sis...

Laid down 18 August 1920
