The common dolphin is a pelagic dolphin that inhabits a wide area of ocean ranging from tropical to temperate zones. Seen from the side, its front half has tinges of yellow and its lower half is a pale gray.

It is an athletic breed of dolphin, often acrobatically jumping out of the ocean and striking the surface with its body when moving in groups. These groups range in size from tens to even thousands of individuals.

Dolphins are mammals that returned to the sea and have bodies well suited to life underwater. For example, their eyes are on the sides of their faces in order to reduce water resistance when swimming at high speeds, and also have ways to increase the amount of light that passes through them so that they can live in the darkness of the sea. Because it's bright near the surface, their pupils are U-shaped in order to reduce amount of sunlight exposure. Also, dolphins don't have eardrums. They instead have fat pockets on their lower jaws which amplify sound. This gives them hearing.

Their nostrils are on top of their heads so that they can breathe more easily.
