This is my deduction from the info we've gathered thus far.

The abnormal regenerative powers of the target is almost certainly due to excessive power coming from multiple cores.

The atrophy of turrets inside the tail is probably for "ingesting" material required for regeneration directly.

It also explains why only the biological parts heal while firearms stay damaged and unusable.

Also, this too is just a hypothesis, but the reason other Abyssals are hostile to the target...

is likely because its Siamese twin-like state is recognized as a mutation by the entire Abyssal "race" .
