When Akagi and others mention '58', Goyathey might have been referring to her

The second generation I-58 Completed on Showa 19, September 7. 1944

The first generation I-58 (I-158) Completed on Showa 3, May 15. 1928

The first generation (I-158) was a fighting ship that sank quite a few merchant ships during the war. Both the first and second generations survived till the end of the war.

The second generation's captain Hashimoto also formerly commanded the first generation. Mochitsura Hashimoto was the famous captain who sank the USS Indianapolis

By the way, the predecessor was renamed "I-158" on May 20, Showa 17 just before Midway. 1942
