Destroyer Division 10

Kazagumo was assigned to DesDiv 10, which played an active role as part of DesRon 10. Division mates Makigumo and Yuugumo would go down fighting. At this time Asagumo joined to bolster the division's strength, however Akigumo also sank. And Kazagumo was sunk by an American submarine's torpedo during a transport operation to reinforce Biak. Her survivors were rescued 3 hours later by Asagumo.

Thus, with the loss of all the original ships of DesDiv 10, Asagumo was transferred to DesDiv 4 a month later, bringing a close to the history of the 10th Destroyer Division. Makigumo sunk 1943-01-02 by a mine during evacuation from Guadalcanal Yuugumo sunk 1943-06-10 during the Battle of Vella Lavella Akigumo sunk 1944-04-11 by USS Redfin Kazagumo sunk 1944-08-06 by USS Hake during Operation KON Asagumo sunk 1944-10-25 at Surigao Strait
