燃料の枯渇によりまともに動かす事が出来ず、呉港外にて浮砲台となる。
１９４５年７月２４日、呉軍港空襲で米空母機の攻撃を受け草川艦長以下２０４名が戦死。
多数の至近弾が誘爆を起こし浸水して２６日に着底するが、乗組員は残存した機銃で終戦まで戦い続けた。

Due to fuel shortage restricting her movement, she became a floating gun battery outside Kure port.
On July 24th, 1945, 204 sailors, including the Captain Kusakawa, died during "the bombing of Kure":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Kure_%28July_1945%29 by US carrier borne planes.
She flooded and sunk two days later on the 26th due to some near-miss bombs' delayed explosion. Despite that, some of her guns continued to manned and she fought until the end of the war.
