This is a picture of Sakawa next to the Aioi bridge (drawn in 53 minutes). This bridge, spanning across the Motoyasu river, is unusual due to an extension on the middle of the bridge into the sandbank on the southern side, forming a "T" shape.

Since this bridge is located in the middle of the city and is easily recognizable, it is used as a target for the atomic bombing at 8:15 AM, 69 years ago.

On each anniversary of the bombing, lanterns are floated across the Motoyasu in memoriam of those who lost their lives. Today the lanterns would be scooped up later downstream, but in the past it would be released into the sea, sometimes even washed up on the Shikoku island.
