Being cheerful twintail + sport pants girl is charming, but it's her introduction line that caught me off guard… She’s been hoping and waiting to meet Admiral doesn’t she. Her ability is great in the game and brighten the mood when assigned to formation. After being selected as the main character of Kantai Collection novel, I'm putting expectation on her actions.

Kagerou, the beginning of the Type-A Destroyer

After abandoning the Naval Treaty in 1937, Japan gathered their experience in destroyer shipbuilding and build the latest destroyers. While having similar displacement as the Asashio-class, the engine upgrade significantly increased the coverage and cruising ability of the Kagerou class. * Asashio-class are the first Japanese destroyers to exceed 2000 tons displacement.

18th Destroyer Division

Kagerou is assigned to the 18th Destroyer Division, part of the 2nd Torpedo Squadron. At this time, her comprades are Shiranui, Kasumi and Arare. She also participated in the Attack on Pearl Harbour, Battle of Rabaul and Battle of Midway.

Tokyo Express

The main role of destroyers is for launching torpedo attack on enemy ship during engagements. But because America took away air superiority, slow supply ships find it difficult to bring supplies to the front line. Instead, fast destroyers are used for supply and transport. Because they move during the night time, this operation is nicknamed as the "rat transport" (Tokyo Express by the Allied). The same expedition mission is also present in Kantai Collection. During her time assigned to the 15th Destroyer Division, Kagerou is also assigned to transport operations to Guadalcanal. In 1943, Kagerou participated in transport operation to Kolombangara with Kuroshio. But because they took the same route, Kagerou is disabled by naval mine laid by US Navy and finally sunk from enemy attack.
